Greeting Card Barcode Shown Above
The 13-digit barcode on the left, the standard EAN barcode, identifies the sale of one single loose greeting card from a greeting card company. All greeting cards from a single company will feature the same 13-digit EAN code.
The barcode on the right, referred to as the greeting card supplemental barcode, identifies the various designs and differs from one card design to another.

Example of supplemental requirements:

00001 identifies a funny father’s day card with a golf picture
00002 identifies a serious get well card with the flower picture
00003 identifies a happy birthday card with a cake picture

Do I really need a barcode for my Greeting Card?

Greeting Card Codes are the common method by which your retailer accepts and tracks Greeting Cards.

How do Barcodes for Greeting Cards work?
A greeting card’s 13-digit EAN code, when scanned at the register, alerts the retailers as to which company placed the card with them. The 5-digit supplemental code identifies the particular design of card.

Greeting Card Codes appear as lines (bars) of varying widths representing the series of numbers commonly shown below
the bars.

Barcode scanners read the bars and convert them back to the Greeting Card Code that they represent.
When you reach an agreement with a retailer to carry your product(s), they request the information required by their unique proprietary sales and inventory tracking system.

Your Greeting Card Code, when looked up within the retailer’s inventory system finds the corresponding product name and price.

This information helps the retailer keep accurate inventory data, review sales, and reorder.

EPS Format - This layered, vector EPS file, generated in Adobe Illustrator, is the preferred format of most graphic designers due to its quality and versatility, particularly for resizing. EPS is an "exchange" format, not necessarily associated with one specific graphics program. An exchange format is one intended for multiple applications to be able to open.

AI or Adobe Illustrator - This layered, vector AI file, generated in Adobe Illustrator, is the preferred format of most graphic designers due to its quality and versatility, particularly for resizing. AI is an application-native file format for Adobe Illustrator. An application-native format is intended for use by the creating application.
